In Portland...

>> Saturday, December 19, 2009

Totally saw the Neutra Face Music video guy at a cigar shop today. I didn't want to geeky typophile fangirl out on him so I didn't ask to take a picture with him like I wanted to, booooo! Oh well, I squeed in my head anyway.

Having a great time thus far and hope to bring out my camera tomorrow to snap some good shot. I haven't touched my camera in a few months, and I greatly dislike that.

That's all for now,

I, the eternal optimist

>> Tuesday, December 1, 2009

It's been a while, and I swear I'll be catching up on my "Nothing says _____ like Papyrus" asap, but I wanted to take a moment to share a site I found today that really makes me smile.

http://www.givesmehope.com/

I was never a fan of the whole FML revelation. It just wasn't within my being to be so pessimistic about the world. We all get down from time to time, but with me I tend to pick myself back up within a day, if not within a few hours. givesmehope.com is really the optimists version of Fuckmylife.com I'm glad to see I'm not the only optimist left out there in the world and reading these bits of hope has really made my night.

I'd also like to share my favorite.

"Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of four years in a nice restaurant. When she said yes, the entire restaurant stood up and applauded.

We're both women.

Understanding of true love GMH."

Oh and something I love from Post Secret:

soft
lips, skin, chest
so alike in every curve and dip
yet so different in essence
arching backs, trailing fingers
my delicate kisses over every inch

slow
hands, breath, eyes
so unseasoned are you
yet so practiced am I
searching touches, guiding hands
my voice faint in your ear

I’ll show you what to do

Veer Take a Picture

>> Tuesday, November 10, 2009

So my brother talked me into entering the grand prize portion of the Veer Take a Picture competition.

I was really reluctant, because I don't take failure well and I knew that in a competition this big there was a slim chance I would win. I entered anyway, worked on my entry for 2 and a half days, when I should have been doing homework, hahWell really it was 2 days of working on the object and a few hours with my brother taking the photo to send in.

So here's my entry for all to see:

The box is actually cardboard with a faux finish to make it look like metal, with brads and eyelets for the rivited effect. Patinad to look aged. It's also full of copper wire to finish that capacitor look that I was going for, and then alligator clipped to an old GM fan I have to make it look as though it's part of the powering system.

Here is a before shot of just the cardboard.

Much kudos to my brother for helping me light and photograph my little Veer Capacitor.

There were around 1000 entries for the competition.

Well Veer sure does know how to build suspense, as the announcement of the winner was due to take place today at noon, but didn't actually happen until 4 pm!

Needless to say, I didn't win. I wasn't even a runner up! Though one of my brothers entries made it to runner up, so if you've got a Veer account go vote for his (the moss one, by Justin Ross) so I can make him buy me the Kern zip up sweater with some of his site prize
money!

The winner did this neat perspective thing to accomplish his, but I'm actually kind of bummed because he had to send a video in to explain how he did it to get the win. I think that's kind of bunk, as in a contest called "Take a Picture" the picture should really be the only explination you need. Oh well, judging is subjective and thus what I think is bunk they thought was totally cool.

There were some other great entries, and a lot of pretty average ones. Tons of people did something with fall leaves, since ya know, it's that time of year. Someone made the Veer logo withs googly eyes! and another person did it with light bright, those werent awesome ones, but they made me smile.

So though I enjoyed working on this, and had a great time photographing it with my brother, but stuff like this just isn't for me. I work my tail off, deal with the suspense and then to have a huge letdown is a recipe for depression in my world. In a TOTAL funk as a result of the roller coaster of this contest.

Now I'm off to go rip it up to blow off some steam.

Words the equal my brain thoughts.

>> Friday, October 23, 2009

So there is this poet, that I've got a major literary crush on.

Yes a literary crush. They do exist and I've had one for a while now. Someone who can really converse with me is a tantalizing sensation to me and it's much more likely to get me in the sack than any buffed up jock that skated his way through school on good looks and running the football team, or curvy dumb blond who thinks Shakespeare is solely that guy from the Gwyneth Paltrow movie.

I love eloquent people.

Poetry has a special soft spot, within my soft spot for eloquent people and thus my literary crush came about. His stage name is Big Poppa E and the words that come from his mouth speak my brain thoughts.

I wanted to share a few videos from him, my favorites and a new one that makes me smile and go "exactly!"

The recent one that hit home with me :)

Man do those words make me squirmy! XD

Sometimes I think we all just need to be a bit more honest.

I seem to have spent the evening telling 4 different friends with 4 different situations that honesty is the best policy.

Things don't change and nothing gets better if people don't know it's broken.

Even if the person your honest with doesn't change their actions based on your conversation at least you got it off your chest.

I may seem like a bitter jaded bitch sometimes, but everyone deserves a chance and everyone deserves honesty.

More on this later.

How have you been?

Hey bed, How's it going?

I know, I've been spending a lot of time with you lately. Well you see I've apparently got this cold that has decided to incapacitate me for most of the day. I'm sure you don't mind as I know that when I'm busy we see less and less of each other, but me being stuck in bed is really only great for you at the moment.

Now don't be offended, it's just that my life gets pretty hectic and with me being stuck in bed it's a vicious cycle. Yes I'm spending more time with you, but that time i'm spending in bed results in less time with you later as i'm trying to play catch up on all the things I should have been doing while sick. So if you really look at it, the actual ammount of time I'm spending with you doesn't increase at all, it either stays the same, or even decreases in the long run!

Don't feel bad bed, it's not your fault I got sick. Just stop being so buddy buddy with my fever so I can get back into the swing of things and back on my normal schedule with you. If you tell him to leave me alone I promise to spend an extra half an hour with you every other day just napping. Sound fair?

~Lyndsie

P.S. I know that you don't like me getting up early to go to the gym, but being more tired at the end of the day just makes me appreciate you that much more. It's really a win win situation, don't do anything you'd regret to keep me from going.

Terrariums!! I've always had a love for those cute little encapsulated environments, and I've had an obsession with tiny plants since I was a little kid. I always wanted to plant those tiny little white flowers around my doll house (yes I had a doll house, I'm not as much of a tomboy as you all think) because they were the right proportion to my tiny little dolls!

I'm catching up on old RSS feeds and saw a post on apartment therapy that got me all squirmy and wanting to make some again.

How freeking cute is this?!!?!

Here is the whole article: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/decorative-accessories/reclaimed-art-terrariums-from-fernseed-093868

So I'm going to be thrift storing it up this weekend to look for halloween costume stuff, and now I have an added search, cute glass things to make terrariums out of! wooo hooo

2 in one day, well don't you all feel special.

>> Wednesday, October 14, 2009

So there were a few things I wanted to cover, that I didn't want to include in my post about loving rain. So two post today it is! Who knows I might get a wild hair up my ass and write a 3rd blog for the day! Doubtful.

So I wanted to introduce you all to my new best friend. Now don't get all bothered like you've been replaced, because it's not like that. He just is there for me in different ways than any of you guys could be, he gets me up in the morning and helps the day go smoothly.

Meet Aladdin:

I know what you're thinking, "that just looks like your average double layer hot beverage cup," but oh no!

I can steep my tea right in this bitch!~ When I'm done steeping it, there's this fancy little lever you push up on the side and the handy dandy little basket pulls up out of the water and right into the lid. no more worries of over steeping when making and drinking tea on the go. Aladdin's got me covered, and he's doesn't have to wear a stupid little vest to do it.

So don't fret dear friends, you haven't been replaced, just downgraded. ;)

I also wanted to start today, a little project I like to call:
Nothing says _____________, like Papyrus.

In this project I will post images I've captured of beautiful usage of our dear friend Papyrus.

Let's get this started!

Because Nothing says Braised Beef Short Ribs, like Papyrus.

Because Nothing says Blueberry tea, like Papyrus.

Also Nothing says Vitamin E oil, Like Papyrus.

and finally, Nothing says Sushi, Like Papyrus with a drop shadow!

Love the rain! <3

Though my backyard may be a shambles, and people in california don't know how to drive, I still adore the rain. It can bluster and pour as much as it wants. I will sit inside with my hot tea and a window cracked to breathe in that sweet rain air. If the power goes out that's just one more reason to take a step back from the computer, light some candles and catch up on your reading or snuggling.

It makes me miss Portland dearly though. I never did feel quite at home in California and once I lived in portland I knew why, It's too damn hot here. I live for warm snuggly coats, long fluffy scarves and rain boots to keep my feet dry. Sitting in a park on a moist bench after a fresh rain is heaven to me. The Pacific north west gave me a place that feels like home.

Don't confuse my love of the cold as a desire to live in the freezing cold of montana or, Idaho. On the contrary I despise snow. That's the kind of cold you're never prepared for, and I'm not a fan of any type of weather that can trap you somewhere. The control freak in me just can't handle how helpless snow can make you.

So give me rain! Lots of it. I'll prepare by buying new galoshes, a cute umbrella and driving more carefully like all us silly californians should do when you start to see drops.

Mmmmm.. heaven

Simple things to make your life better.

>> Sunday, October 11, 2009

Weird things I think about, try to do myself and wish that everyone I love would do for themselves as well.
Yes, I actually wrote all of this... it's not some stupid chain letter.

Stay away for Sugars and if you have to have them be smart about it.

Opt for Organic, fresh and locally grown foods. Not only are you supporting the people who are growing and raising things the right way, you're telling your body that it matters.

Cook your own meals at least 4 days a week, when you know what is going into your body you can expect what you're going to get out of it.

Only eat when you are hungry.

Love your body for every inch and curve, but don't let that love keep you from wanting to be healthy.

You are not defined by the size of clothes you wear, and remember plus size is a crock of shit.

When you are thirsty, drink water.

Trade your coffee for a high quality green tea, or any tea for that matter!

Take a month off from drinking alcohol, the break will let you body heal itself and you'll be amazed how much better you feel.

Have your dose of sunlight everyday, that means walk away from the computer and enjoy the outdoors. Get some vitamin D flowin.

Take a walk everyday, even if it's just around the block.

Smoking is outdated, just stop it for your own sake and those who love you.

Learn to breathe correctly; for the bottom to the top of your lungs, also remember to take the TIME to breathe.

Sleep in total darkness, you'll be more likely to be well rested when you wake in the morning.

Stop criticizing; yourself and everyone around you, and start living.

Accept that you deserve to be healthy and you have the ability to GET healthy.

Learn to take a break. Sometimes a breather is all we really need to get back on the right track and get the job done.

Go on vacation, even if it's just in your own bathtub XD.

Forget yesterday and tomorrow, live in the Here and Now. There is absolutely nothing you can do to change things you've done in the past, and trying to will only make the present just as crappy as your previous mistakes. Also, when you try to predict your future, you're generally wrong, so stop letting yourself down.

Stay in touch with your friends, even if you are “busy”, a simple IM or email can make people know you still care.

Listen to Music that makes you happy, and sing into some form of a hair brush as loud as you possibly can.

Keep on learning new things, the second you stop learning your life is over.

Practice Yoga, even if it's just the deep breathing parts.

Speak your mind; do not let anything stay bottled up for too long.

Talk to strangers, you never know what kind of awesome people might be sitting right next to you.

Get dirty. Far too many people don't know how satisfying it is to dig into the earth with their bare hands.

Sweat at least once a day, it does amazing things for your skin and you'll look and feel healthier.

Sing in your shower (even if you can’t sing).

Makes lists of things you need to get done. If you get it out of your head and onto a piece of paper you'll be much less likely to stress about it, and more likely to get it all done.

Have sex, passionately.

But don't forget there are more important things than sex.

"Making love" is underrated and far too often over looked.

Love someone.

Smile. People who see a smile on your face will have a better day as a result.

No matter what crappy thing is going on in your life, remember that there are far more people in the world that have it a billion times worse than you do.

And if your reading this, know that I care about you.

Thanks for reading :)

Welcome.

So I've actually had an online presence in some shape or form for quite a while now. Recently though, I've had a sudden influx of friends starting blogs and I figured I'd start putting up some things I already post on my personal online journal as well as some bonus stuff just for this blog.

What you should expect to see here:

art
design
randomness
foul language
food
bizzare thoughts
inside jokes you may not understand
more foul language
photography
my brain thoughts
pictures of me doing stupid stuff
complaining
sharing of funny links
and yet again more foul language

This is just the beginning and the design of my blog so far is not really what I'd like, just a template that will work for now, so look out for some changes in the near future.

So welcome, and I hope you enjoy the ride.
